Do you ever wonder why your partner guards the doubles alley and lets floaters pass through the center of the court? Are you guilty of hugging the net and letting your partner run frantically back to retrieve all the lobs over your head? Do you like to hit every ball as hard as you can at the net player from the baseline? Is it fun to watch your partner hit ball after ball after ball from the baseline while you stand idly at the net? When you are off the court retrieving a wide shot, does your partner guard his alley on the other side of the court, leaving the entire middle wide open? Aha! Beginning to sound familiar? Well, then, you and your partner need to attend Peter's Men's Doubles Clinic so your fellow players will seek you out as a good partner and knowledgeable doubles strategist. Back by popular demand, especially by the 3.5 and 4.0 team captains, PMDC will remind you of the winning and fun way to play doubles (that is, if you ever knew it to start with). Peter and his staff of teaching pros will cover court positioning, movement, strategy, partner communication, shot selection, and colorful vocabulary. Each session will feature at least one pro for every 8 players (i.e. 4 doubles teams). Starting Thursday, July 30, Peter will conduct his Doubles Clinic each Thursday for 6 weeks from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with practice play to follow. Everyone will assemble at 6:30 for a 1/2 hour warmup, so everyone is ready to get right into the lessons at 7 PM. Courts will be available afterwards for practice matches. Cost will be only $15 per person per lesson, and the WFMTA will underwrite the remaining actual costs. The lessons will be taught as a package, and maximum benefit will be gained by attending all six sessions with your normal playing partner. Players signing up for the entire six weeks of PMDC will receive a special discount price of only $90. However, you may attend any number of sessions with or without your usual partner (if without, you will be paired with one of your other teammates). Deadline for signup for each session will be 6 PM on Wednesday, the day prior. A reminder will be sent to all members each Monday. Signup will be by email to Don Frederick.
